Renowned Pakistani singers Rahat Fateh Ali Khan was deported from India on technical grounds as soon as he touched down Hyderabad's Rajiv Gandhi International Airport (RGIA) on Thursday. According to media reports, Rahat was barred entry and asked to return to Abu Dhabi. He had arrived in India to perform at a New Year event at the iconic Taj Falaknuma Palace.

Immigration authorities at RGIA attributed Rahat's deportation to "technical flaws", as Indian immigration rules say any Pakistani national can't enter India through Hyderabad; the legal ports of entry by air are Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata and Chennai. Later in the evening, Rahat Fateh Ali took a flight to Delhi from Abu Dhabi and then boarded a chartered flight to Hyderabad from the national capital. It may be recalled Rahat Fateh Ali Khan was, detained at the Indira Gandhi International Airport in February 2011 for carrying undeclared foreign currency worth $1, 24,000, was released after day-long questioning by the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI).
